By AgroNigeria -September 7, 2018The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Bayelsa Chapter, has begun the distribution of farm inputs to some members of the CBN Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP).
Chairman of RIFAN, Bayelsa, Mr Ezekiel Ogbianko, made this known at the beginning stage of the wet season farming in Yenagoa.
Ogbianko explained that the inputs included 1,200 bags of NPK (rice blend and fertilizers), 64 cartons of pesticide and different other products.
He applauded the Federal Government for initiating the ABP to support not just RIFAN members, but all the farmers in the country.
“We have acquired 5,000 hectares of land across the eight local government areas in the state; we are done with the dry season, though, we are still waiting for the harvest,” He said
Ogbianko urged the farmers not to be discouraged and to “work harder for us to achieve sufficient rice for the people in the state and the nation at large.”
In his remarks, Principal Manager, CBN, Bayelsa Office, Mr. Ezombode Stanley, represented by Mr. Emelo Christian, admonished farmers to make productive use of the inputs and promised to support them for a profitable farming season because farming is essential to the economic advancement of the country.
In his words, “I urge you to continue to support the CBN Anchor Borrowers Programme, and I believe that sufficient rice will be available not only in Bayelsa but Nigeria at large.”
