IMG 20180508 121530Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN) held one day training on data collection, dissemination and management, product knowledge and need for soil testing for FEPSAN fertilizer marker data collectors, retailers and farmers.  The training had in attendance FEPSAN fertilizer data collectors, retailers, farmers, Vice President of FEPSAN, Executive Secretary of FEPSAN, FEPSAN secretariat and member staff and media organization.

The Executive Secretary of FEPSAN, Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu Kwa in his address said the objective is to share experiences on how the fertilizer market data collection can be improved to better serve the industry. In his address gave a brief history of how FEPSAN was formed in 2004. Since then FEPSAN have established relationship collaboration with NGO, Government and private agencies. FEPSAN is a member of D8 fertilizer association group of eight developing countries, participated in GESS program and member of Agricultural Transformation Implementation council. Working with AGRA Mira on fertilizer quality control bill and also working with IFDC and FAO under on fertilizer.org on fertilizer data statistics in the country. Most importantly FEPSAN is part of the PFI program. He urged the participants to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the association.

Alh. Saidu G.B Zakari, Vice President of FEPSAN in his address said Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) started in 2017, an initiative of the Federal government of Nigeria under the President Muhammadu Buhari by signing an MoU with Moroccan government to supply DAP, targeted 1,000,000 metric tons but have so far produced about 500,000 metric tons of NPK 20-10-10. He also said data collectors are the sources of data for FEPSAN on fertilizer use and consumption and to use their knowledge to improve FEPSAN. FEPSAN
