rice farmers 690x413The Federal Government will distribute farming inputs to about 45,000 rice farmers in Kebbi and Zamfara states for dry season farming.
Chairman, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) in Kebbi, Sahabi Augie, said 39, 000 rice farmers would benefit from the scheme, under which they would receive fertilizer, seeds, herbicide, sprayers, chemicals and pumping machines.
He however noted that the dealers had not supplied the required inputs to the designated distribution centers in the state.
He gave an assurance that the association would work to ensure a timely supply and distribution of the inputs within the next two weeks.
In Zamfara state, 5,403 rice farmers would receive the inputs before the end of the week at five designated cluster distribution centers in Gusau, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum, Dansadau and Talata-Mafara areas of the state.
Chairman, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) in the state, Ishaq Ajiya-Anka, who stated this in Gusau, the state capital, identified the necessary inputs as organic fertilizer, seeds, herbicides, NPK and urea fertilizer, sprayers and pumping machines, which he said were already stored at the designated centers.
He announced plans by the association to encourage farmers to embark on the cultivation of rice, three times every year to maximise production.
The state RIFAN boss called on the state government to improve security in all farm sites to ensure a conducive farming environment.
Ajiya-Anka lauded the Federal Government for introducing the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme to ensure food security in the country.
