soyabeans 324x160500 farmers are currently being trained on techniques to boost production of soybeans in Nasarawa State under a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme (NADP).
At a one-day training workshop on soybeans for extension agents from across the three senatorial districts of the state, the State Director of FMARD in Lafia, Umaru Ahmed, said the training, the first for 20 extension agents in the state was designed to improve soya beans production, adding that the training was a train-the-trainer workshop as the extension workers would later train 25 farmers each in their various communities.
“Extension agents are the driving machine in this objective. We will train our extension agents to go and train farmers. We are targeting 500 farmers from Nasarawa State. That is why we are training 20 extension agents who will in turn step down the training to 25 farmers each,” he said.
He stated that the Federal Government chose to organise the workshop to boost the production of soya beans, found mainly in the north central zone of the country to equip farmers with knowledge on the production of the crop.
Programme Manager of Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme (NADP), Stephen Kpama, commended the Federal Government for the training, stating that through the training, the production of the crop would be boosted.
