farm 1 300x169Construction work will soon commence on the Akim Akim Model Rice Farm Settlement in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Managing Director, Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA), Engr Bassey Nkposong, said the survey plan and technical details for the project had been completed.
Nkposong said the project would incorporate solar energy generation in the coming years, adding that Akim Akim community stakeholders had been sensitized on supporting the project.
“We have held meetings with the clan head, chiefs, youths and women leaders of the community and we appreciate their support for the project,” he said.
He said when completed, the project would create jobs for youths in the area, especially in the area of rice cultivation.
“Apart from that, the project will also serve as a reference point for large scale farmers and entrepreneurs wishing to do business in the community. With the proposed establishment of a rice mill for the project, the settlement will become a hob of activities for rice farmers in the locality,” he stated.
Nkosong commended the community for not emphasizing on compensation on the land for the project.
