Rice FarmerRice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) says it has commenced the registration of 2,000 large scale rice farmers, under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrowers’ Programme in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.
RIFAN Chairman in the LGA, Nura Baure, said under the large scale rice programme, farmers would be given sufficient farming inputs and equipment such as fertilizers, insecticides, water pumping machines, seedlings as well as cash, to ensure increased yield.
He gave an assurance that the equipment and cash would be given to the registered farmers starting from February, stressing that only genuine farmers would be registered.

Baure noted that 300 women had been registered for the large scale farming programme, adding that only 20 women were registered under the Small Scale Farming Borrowers’ Programme last year.

According to him, 500 metric tonnes of rice were harvested in the last planting season, under the Small Scale Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, noting that about 40 per cent of loan beneficiaries under the small scale farming programme had repaid their loans.
