rice grain 324x160The Federal Government has pledged to support local rice farmers across the country by providing milling equipment such as destoners and threshers to boost production.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, made this known during a courtesy visit by the Chairperson of NEPAD Business Group Nigeria (NBGN) Nike Akande.
According to him, the provision of such equipment will reduce the cost of production and price of local rice in markets across the country.
Nike Akande seized the opportunity of the visit to request for the Minister’s support in the planning of the 4th Nigeria Rice Investment Forum scheduled to hold in 2018. She pledged in return, the support of her organisation in assisting the ministry develop the agricultural sector.
A plaque was also presented to the Minister of Agriculture by the NBGN chairperson in acknowledgement of his giant strides in moving the sector forward.
