African Development Bank AfDB 690x450The African Development Bank (AfDB) has said it is working alongside the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to boost drought resilience in Nigeria, Somalia and Uganda, as well as, strengthen their agriculture value chains.
Vice-President for Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery of AfDB, Khaled Sherif, disclosed that the partnership between both financial institutions will mitigate challenges inherent in important crop and livestock value chains.
He added that both institutions will seek out ways of limiting droughts brought about by climate change to promote the campaign of ‘Say No To Famine/Alliance to End Famine in Africa.’
“While the MoU is continent-wide and cross-sectoral, we jointly identified immediate synergies in the broader FEED Africa and Say No To Famine domain, which cover varying levels of short-term, medium-term and long-term interventions, to deliver even more efficiently and effectively to the benefit of communities in the three countries,” he said.
Vice President of IsDB, Mansur Muhtar described the collaboration as strategic and purposeful. He assured that available resources of both institutions will be maximised for the realisation of outlined objectives.
He cited Nigeria’s Plateau State Potato Value Chain Support Project of the AfDB and the planned Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project by IsDB as examples, which he said will promote more rewarding agro-pastoral activities.
