IGP Yobe StateA body, Yobe State Fertilizer Sales Association, has alleged that bags of ‘fake’ fertilizer with Federal Government inscription ‘FGN Agro’ were on sale to farmers in Potiskum town, Yobe State.
The Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Ali Maitaki, said the fertilizer was stocked in a store where farmers were buying along Ibrahim Alkali Avenue Potiskum, at N5500, and it was necessary for the Inspector General of Police to investigate it.
He said after some customers expressed doubt over the genuineness of the fertilizer, “We rushed to the store and picked some samples for analysis, and it was confirmed fake. The fertilizer was filled with sand. We resolved to report the case to Potiskum Police Divisional Office where the suspect told the Police that they still had 460 unsold bags in their store.
“We want to use this medium to appeal to the Inspector General of Police to direct proper investigation into the matter and bring the culprits to book,” Maitaki said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ali M Bura, said “It’s only after laboratory analysis that we can be sure whether the fertilizer is fake or not.”
